ABSTRACT

Child authors could make use of the knowledge they have gained from whole class teaching or independent/collaborative class-based research to inform the content of their non-chronological reports. Invite child authors to become explorers who, after having just returned from intrepid expeditions from the comfort of their own chair, are to inform readers of their global discoveries. This Idea provides child authors with the opportunity to extend and deepen their learning in geographical topic areas where they may have been studying specific localities or countries throughout the world. To develop their research and enquiry skills, professionals should provide child authors with access to a range of both primary and secondary historical sources to draw information from, example audio, images, objects, statistics and texts. The idea of unlocking ‘awe and wonder’ in the world of a child is surely the true aspiration of any professional.
