ABSTRACT

Young children should be able to describe existing simple systems and to learn that a system is made of related parts with special jobs which are combined for a purpose. More able early-years and Key Stage 2 children should know that systems have inputs, processes and outputs and recognise these in simple systems. They can also be helped to appreciate that people or groups may have specialised roles in organisational systems. The children should have the opportunity to make simple systems, to evaluate and improve them and to use this knowledge to inform their design and making activities.
