ABSTRACT

Throughout technology there are considerable overlaps with the cross-curricular theme of Education for Economic and Industrial Understanding as both subjects can help children develop an interest and awareness in economic and industrial affairs, and to understand the key concepts of production, distribution, supply and demand. Young children can learn that goods are made, distributed, sold, advertised and bought. They should be able to appreciate that the creation of products is limited by costs of materials, equipment, available people, their skills and time. Study of industries also enables them to see design and making in 'real life' and provides many contexts for their own projects.
