ABSTRACT
Tank cleaning involves many factors which must be considered in order to obtain good results. The new advanced technologies in tank cleaning have raised the standards in marine areas. There are many ways to realise optimal cleaning efficiency for different tanks. It is important to define the cleaning criteria, to plan the cleaning operations, to select the right methods, to select the operating parameters and the time and to choose cleaning agents which are available for most application problems. After these steps, must be verity the results and ensure that the best cleaning values can be achieved in terms of accuracy and reliability. In this paper are presented the steps of a new vision to monitoring tank cleaning according to MARPOL 73’78 (Annex I and II): monitoring the processes-cargo tank visual inspections, tank cleaning hardware, tank cleaning chemicals (MEPC 2 Annex 10), advanced devices and methods to evaluation the contaminated samples from walls of tanks. The efficiency of cleaning technologies depending on companies and their quality requirements those standards might deviate from the usual cleanliness requirement.
