ABSTRACT
“Ground Effect” is known, not only theoretically, as an efficient and extremely fast means of transportation. Combining these types of aircraft with search and rescue (SAR) units and intervention over the surface of water or ice is a promising idea. Authors of the paper describe the new role of “ekranoplanes”, also known as Wing-In-Ground (WIGs), in search, rescue and intervention operations at sea, including the Arctic region.
