ABSTRACT
Utilization of Digital Selective Calling (DSC), which is one of the core procedures in the GMDSS is still practically ignored on a ships because of improper manual control interface. Mariners appeal to creation of standardized and user friendly organized interface. The proposed VHF/DSC – ECDIS/AIS integration removes handmade DSC operations while keeping the necessary protocol of VHF radiotelephony under GMDSS requirements. Recently elaborated Lightweight Ethernet (LWE) standard allows connection of all marine electronic tools, including VHF DSC installation, to shipboard network. Integration of DSC device into shipboard network must be foreseen in any case in integrated navigation system and in communication architecture of unmanned vessels.
