ABSTRACT

Since human beings have made marks and symbols to express our relationship with the world, we have been using pigments from the earth. Whether painting on cave walls or our bodies, we have found ways of utilizing colours from the materials found in our local environment. From minerals and plant dyes, animal parts, and more complicated processes we have explored and discovered ways to colour our world.
