ABSTRACT

Augmented reality is a trending topic in consumer industries, but to date has been largely used as a gimmick for advertisement-based messaging. The platform itself is ideally suited for displaying georeferenced data; in particular geologic models and associated physically positioned data. Leapfrog Aspect is a tool to connect geologic and economic models to the real world using augmented reality. As with any emerging technology there were physical and parametric challenges to overcome, and the product as well as the concept itself are a work-in-progress. However, the functionality to date proves that there is a shrinking divide between the physical geology and the digital model space.
