ABSTRACT
Three inputs are critical to the on-going operation of the mining industry: (1) access to land to extract minerals, (2) access to water to process and produce metals, and (3) attaining social and political consensus to operate. Gaining and keeping access to these three inputs will require that the mining industry innovate and think differently. Internally, companies will need to rethink the time, costs, and consents required for accessing land and water. Externally, companies will need to engage earlier and continuously with communities and stakeholders to agree on new mine development and continued operations for existing mines.
