ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the hero's and shero's journey. The hero's journey is based in the work of Joseph Campbell, the 20th-century mythologist, who discovered that cultures across the globe had a similar myth about how humans, in order to become fully human, one must go through a series of experiences. Campbell called these experiences the hero's journey, which he laid out in his book The Hero With a Thousand Faces. Americans are familiar with this journey because it has been used in many major blockbuster movies, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, The Matrix, Shrek, Finding Nemo, Lord of the Rings, and many more. Cornel West, the great American philosopher, argues that we don't need sprinters, but long-distance runners who are committed to work for justice throughout their entire lives.
