ABSTRACT

Teachers need two things to use the ideas described in the rest of the book: a plan to change their practice, and the time in which to do so. Creating time means prioritising carefully, then sticking to those priorities under pressure. Planning change depends on a teacher’s role: teachers can focus on changing their habits in specific areas of practice. Mentors can support this change. Heads of department can create communities of practice focused on improvement. Professional development leads can encourage coaching and communities of practice. Senior leaders can ensure teachers have the space they need to achieve these goals.
