ABSTRACT

This chapter transfers the discussion of kosmopolitanism into the professional identity of teachers and teacher educators. It focuses on the multifaceted challenges that neoliberalism presents to teachers and teacher educators, alike. The chapter reviews scholarship that identifies and critiques the dominant neoliberal influences in education as a whole, specific attention will be provided to its impact in teacher education. It proceeds with a discussion of potential foundations for an alternative reality. The chapter transfers the level of analysis from the students to the teachers. It identifies the neoliberal infusion in the world of teachers and teacher educators that clouds the possibilities of alternative realities in today's schools. It proceeds to an overview of some practical reasons that make a kosmopolitan teaching reality challenging. The chapter ends with a call to aim to bring together theoretical and practical approaches that are founded on similar principles of educational praxis.
