ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses some of the themes through the narratives, which have encouraged and supported the contributors’ academic success. It explains a true testament to the impact that connecting students from underrepresented communities to mentors and teachers can have. The book examines the transformative impact that attending the Shaw Academy, which was operated by Mr. and Mrs. Shaw, had on his educational development. Academic validation occurs when a caring agent in or outside the educational setting helps students to have confidence in their innate capacity to learn. Aside from the relationship between holding students to high standards or expectations and their academic performance, another theme that emerged from the contributors’ stories centered on the Transformative Space of a Historically Black College and University.
