ABSTRACT

“To achieve engagement, school staff needs to structure classrooms and the wider school environment as equitable, student-centered places of learning. Each student should have leadership experiences in formal and informal settings, including such responsibilities as determining how to achieve learning goals, assess personal progress and collaborate with others to measure and create change in the school climate”. The literature on the benefits of grade advancement or participation in early college programs yields positive results with the caveat around parental involvement. Penny Wrenn idea expanded on the belief that parent’s career satisfaction impacted the work ethic applied by their children in education and career attainment. When parents worked hard and spoke highly of their job, the observing child developed an intrinsic motivation to achieve the same result. School leaders must create opportunities for students to engage in challenging, self-reflecting learning environments.
