ABSTRACT

Many companies have been working on emerging technology—namely Scatter, 8i, Intel and Microsoft. In an April 2018 article in Variety, Janko Roettgers describes how Microsoft has been working on hologram technology for close to eight years. The sci-fi version of haptic technology is a full haptic suit, giving users feedback about their surroundings with simulated touch all over the body. Many immersive storytellers are eager to see how artificial intelligence could be used to help tell stories, as well as a more complete integration of voice-activation/commands. Photogrammetry has gone through a big revolution since many techniques have been automated. In photogrammetry the viewer is not able to see the reflective quality that can be seen with light field technology. At the time of writing, most VR experiences rely on head and hand tracking to locate the user in space and track their movements.
