ABSTRACT

In general, drinking moderate amounts of alcohol is good for health; however, excessive drinking is harmful. Given the healthcare messages that state things like “drinking a little improves blood circulation, removes uncomfortable feelings, improves the stamina, and relieves anxiety, but excessive drinking harms people in many ways,” people have been drinking moderately for health since old times. A book titled Longevity Studies published in China indicates that methods for longevity include mental health care (living comfortably and pleasantly), residential health care (living a regular life in good environments), labor health care (doing appropriate work), sleep health care (maintaining comfortable sleep), exercise health care (performing appropriate exercise), food healthcare (eating a variety of beneficial foods), and life-prolonging health care (taking appropriate drugs). Interestingly, in this book, alcohol is included in the range of food or medicine when the longevity methods are explained. Individuals who drink an appropriate amount of alcohol every day can live a relatively long life. However, there is a lack of appropriate reasons.
