ABSTRACT

This chapter provides readers with classroom-tested social studies lesson plans created by elementary school teachers at all grade levels and with various levels of teaching experience. Planning lessons in the elementary classroom are becoming increasingly important as the emphasis on improving standardized test scores continues to place unprecedented restrictions on instructional time. As social studies content continues to routinely be left out of standardized testing, even teachers with a desire to teach social studies concepts may struggle to find the time in a curriculum dominated by other areas. The chapter provides readers with classroom-tested social studies lesson plans created by elementary school teachers at all grade levels and with various levels of teaching experience.
