ABSTRACT

The perineum lies below the pelvic diaphragm (levator ani and coccygeus). It is a diamond-shaped space between the pubic symphysis and the coccyx, bounded anterolaterally by the ischiopubic rami, posterolaterally by the sacrotuberous ligaments and laterally by the ischial tuberosities. A line joining the ischial tuberosities divides the space into a posterior anal triangle and an anterior urogenital triangle.
