ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an approach to the exercise; it presents a series of questions to the key internal stakeholders, the answers to which will yield much valuable information and, crucially, provide a clear mandate to those charged with delivering the engagement programme. It highlights the fact that Governments around the world will always have an extensive slate of potential policy initiatives that will affect sectors right across the economy, and an organisation's ability to engage with the decision-makers will depend on the way in which the political institutions in a country function. The policy arena is rich in new initiatives that address all parts of the economy. Organisations need to focus on decision-makers and key influencers in relation to policy and regulation across the world. Stakeholder engagement is also increasingly recognised as an important part of government practice. An effective engagement programme needs a strong organisation where all internal stakeholders understand their contribution to the overall programme.
