Global health

This chapter highlightes opportunities, and offers guidance on areas such as internships, research and medical electives in global health. Undertaking internships in a global health institution is one of the most fascinating activities for medical students and health trainees. Internships include working in the field developing and strengthening local health systems and participating in clinical and epidemiological work or working at the headquarters on global health polices and engagements. Global health research is defined as 'the area of study, research and practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in health for all people worldwide'. Global health research can be conducted at any time, with focus appropriate for someone's current interests and stage of training. The author's academic objective in applying to the Exchange Clerkship Program of Harvard Medical School was to obtain knowledge of neurology and radiology in the high-yield setting.
