ABSTRACT

The full blessings of God, wrote the Protestant reformer John Calvin, are never displayed “in the present shadowy life”. They are held in store for the future. Christians should set their eyes on the world to come instead of the one they presently inhabit. In this new world, “the Lord will receive His faithful servants, wipe away all tears from their eyes, clothe them in a robe of glory and joy, [and] feed them with the ineffable sweetness of His pleasures”. Unlike the current world, the next one will be permanent. This life will vanish at the moment of death; but the one to come is everlasting. 1
