ABSTRACT

With the advent of newer and advanced materials, it is becoming more and more difficult to process them, especially by machining. In this regard, nontraditional machining practices have been applied to overcome the difficulties associated with machining of advanced materials. In this chapter, recent applications and key issues of nontraditional machining for various engineering and engineered materials are summarized. In order to address the key issues with the various nontraditional machining practices, recent advancements or developments in major processes from both academia and industries especially nontraditional machine tool manufacturers are discussed. Most literatures review the various aspects of nontraditional machining practices but do not specifically address the advancements made in overcoming the key issues. In this aspect, this chapter does this in a concise way and so would be of immense benefit equally to researchers as well as practicing engineers to get an idea of the advancement and applications of several nontraditional machining practices.
