ABSTRACT

This chapter begin with a key problem in dictionary management: "Time was, when the chief editor of a dictionary project presided, largely single-handedly, over the entire management of the project in hand". A dictionary project needs a clear conception from the very beginning. And it also requires a consistent use of the lexicographic instructions when the lexicographers involved place data in the different data fields. The contribution argues for the appointment of a professional lexicographer as the dictionary project manager. Such a manager could benefit from knowledge of management theories, but she or he should keep in mind that good dictionary making means planning, planning and planning combined with dictionary functions related to deciding, deciding and deciding. The development of e-lexicography shows that IT experts have more and more influence on the conception and the continuous work with e-dictionaries.
