ABSTRACT

The variability in the form of eventscapes is analysed in this chapter by considering the role of different types of spatial anchors linking events to particular environments. The resulting spatial patterns that emerge in both urban and rural landscapes are described to illustrate the type of transformations associated with eventscapes. Consideration is given to the ability of fluid events to connect widely dispersed places and a discussion of the role of maps in communicating information about eventscapes responds to a gap in the event studies literature. A series of case studies provide valuable insight about the factors that influence the development of events in different countries. While acknowledging the transportability of many events, the implications for event management of the relationship between events and resources, both environmental and cultural are discussed.
