ABSTRACT

A father, master of the house and husband was like the head, placed above the rest of the body, which is anxious to ensure that the other body parts stay in their place, so he must defend his wife and the other members. The men's 'brotherhood of combat' as an ideological and cultural model promotes the adoption of violence as part of their actions in a way that under normal circumstances would be completely unacceptable. In early modern times, sexual intercourse between spouses was generally seen as a good thing, even though it needed monitoring. The fact that masculinity and male sexuality are explained sort of inversely, by turning the focus more to the woman as a target, and tells a lot about the emphasis on men as subjects and women as objects. The purpose of the youth social work offers a safe space where boys can discuss issues such as sexuality, violence and fatherhood within a peer group.
