ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the exposure triangle—how aperture, shutter speed and ISO affect a photograph—are the foundation of understanding exposure. In a good magic trick, the steps for success include diversion, performance and of course skill in handling the cards. Changing one exposure triangle setting affects the others if the photographer want the same exposure—luminance wise—of the scene. Getting a good exposure, like a good card magic trick, is easy—easy if photographer know the trick or technique. In photography, the steps for success begin with what is called the exposure triangle: photographer's aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings. ISO is about two things: One, photographer can think about it as adjusting the sensor's sensitivity to light, with lower ISO settings being less sensitive to light than high ISO settings. Two, as photographer increase the ISO, more noise is added to a digital file.
