ABSTRACT

In this chapter Helena pays tribute to the influence of Estela Welldon’s work beyond the consulting room. She writes about the importance of understanding women’s violent and perverse behaviour and highlights some ways in which legislation concerning crimes committed both against and by women has changed in the last 20 years. However, as she will argue, mythologies around ‘good womanhood’ which permeate decision-making still abound and she will note areas in which society’s attitude to women is still prejudicial.
