ABSTRACT

The aim of establishing the importance of information to the work of the managerial accountant is to show its place in the managerial accountant's compass. This chapter examines the responsibilities of the managerial accountant for selecting, compiling and providing information in a form that is customized to both the characteristics of the decision to be made and the knowledge and expertise of the decision maker(s). The managerial accountant will recognize that that they primarily communicate with non-accountants. Improving communication builds a foundation for the managerial accountant to demonstrate to non-accounting managers how they add value to information. Financial and non-financial information can be presented in various formats. The managerial accountant aggregates and integrates information to present information that delivers greater value than its components possess individually. Accounts produce an infinite number of outputs, some to prescribed formats, but many are the left to the judgment of the individual accountant.
