ABSTRACT

The role or function and responsibilities or tasks or duties of the managerial accountant inform the managerial accountant's compass by highlighting the range of concerns and actions. The work of the managerial accountant is set out at three broad levels: entry level, intermediate level and senior level. The entry-level managerial accountant skills and abilities are quantitative or numerical accuracy, investigation, information literacy, analysis, communication and making recommendations. Some entry-level managerial accountant role and responsibilities may overlap the intermediate level, depending upon the characteristics of the organization and its circumstances. The intermediate-level managerial accountant skills and abilities are adaptability, abstraction, continuous learning, visualization, modeling, negotiation and familiarity with technology and systems. Senior managerial accountant will be aware that the signals from strategic controls require skill to interpret whether there is a strategy drift or failure. In terms of the managerial accountant's compass, the senior-level managerial accountant will master both its cardinal and context.
