ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 considers how Sufi brotherhoods in Fez have changed to engage the music industry, creating a “sacred music industry” within the city. It focuses on the ʿissawa music and ritual as they shift to accommodate wedding performances and other life events. The chapter also brings the hamadsha back into the conversation (see Chapter 5) to see how these two traditions participate in contemporary pop fusion projects, both locally and globally.
