ABSTRACT
While there is a definite unity amongst the Bantu family, and to a lesser degree a certain similarity between many Bantoid languages, the only reason for linking together the languages of this section is their lack of Bantu features. This negative criterion, though useful from a Bantuist’s point of view, is of little value as an indication of the exceedingly diverse characteristics displayed by members of this group.
