ABSTRACT

Perhaps it would be opportune at the outset of this section to point out the different implications of the terms Bantu and Non-Bantu as applied to languages. The former indicates a linguistic group which has certain well-defined characteristics peculiar to itself. The latter label was given to languages whose only link might well be the negative criterion of not possessing Bantu features. We must not then expect to find in this field anything approaching the unity of Bantu.
