ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on positive subjective experiences, positive traits and states, and positive institutional perspectives and new directions. It explores various approaches to understanding and explicating the benefits that can be accrued from positive subjective experiences. The book also explores how forgiving people for their transgressions can impact both physiological and emotional well-being. It also focuses on courage and courageous actions as positive psychological constructs. The book covers emerging topical areas in positive psychology, many of which build bridges between other areas of psychology, such as social psychology, clinical psychology, and rehabilitation psychology, to the established areas of positive psychology. It discusses applied positive psychology within the context of a multidimensional, meta-theoretical model designed to promote human well-being.
