ABSTRACT

This chapter covers security risks in network connection through the use of mobile phones. Of spe-cial interest is the fact that mobile phones pose a risk in serving as gateways for attacks on central applications, when employing either their communication functions or certain services that come with these devices. When using a mobile phone both for telephony and WLAN applications at the same time, additional risk potentials arise which will be discussed in greater detail in this chapter.

Firstly, the architecture of mobile phones is looked at. On the basis of this current operating systems are introduced in brief. These operating systems may include various services relevant to security considerations. And finally, a directive tailored to the specific requirements for mobile phones in general is presented.
