ABSTRACT

The authors describe six children and their development from three months to three years of age. A girl and a boy were selected from low birth weight, middle birth weight, and higher birth weight cohorts as examples of the original sample of 19 infants. These examples answer some of questions concerning relative influence of birth weight versus other perinatal and prenatal factors of development; as well as the influence of the enriched social environment of sample on development. A recent study demonstrates individual stability of behaviors in preterms as early as three months. Each vignette includes some description of the child at each age level tested from three months through three years; the mental and motor developmental progression; objectal and object constancy development; and at three years, personality functioning as measured by the Rorschach and human figure drawings.
