ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the process involved in the provision of a new electrical supply connection offer to a site. The provision of an electricity connection has both a physical and contractual element. Physically, it involves the design, planning and construction of electrical infrastructure (cables, switchgear, civil works), whilst contractually, it requires legal agreements to be drawn up and agreed (construction, connection, adoption). Network reinforcement works are required to increase the capacity of the network to enable the connection to meet a site's projected demand. As the Planning Stage progresses, the Developer discuss its proposals with the Host. All works downstream from the point of connection to the Host network into the site and to each building are contestable works. Therefore, the extent of the contestable works may vary significantly depending on where the point of connection is designated by the Host.
