ABSTRACT

Having discussed the challenges of a stressful work environment, and the importance of focusing on effective stress management strategies in Chapter 3, we now move on to focus on resilience. What is resilience and why is it important? If we are to maintain our physical and emotional health when we are dealing with challenging situations at home and work we need to be resilient. We have highlighted the importance of personal and team resilience and how we can use strategies to maintain our empathy with patients in our care, whilst also maintaining our own wellbeing. We have also discussed how essential it is to have clear education and leadership strategies in order to create and maintain practice environments that focus on compassionate care.
