ABSTRACT

Religion has once more found itself in an awkward relation to the state, as it has been so many times in history. In twenty-first-century Europe and America, religion and theological questions find themselves at the heart of one of the most neuralgic issues of our times: terrorism and national security. This chapter explores the conflicts and tensions created, both for political and religious theory and in practice, including operational questions and the controversies of the UK’s Prevent Strategy.
