ABSTRACT

The policies guiding event processes vary significantly depending on the political and social environment in which they are organized and held. This chapter focuses on how existing policies influence the organizational management processes of the large-scale events under investigation. The policy analysis and strategic interviews for the events are used to demonstrate how policy decisions enabled or disabled social change processes in each of the events. Differences in the methods the events employed to address policy issues of accessibility and inclusion for the local community are highlighted. For each event, distinctions emerge which enhance the understanding of how guiding policy decisions shape the opportunities and outcomes of disability sport events for social change. The discussion then turns to implications of these findings for other events and host cities in an international context.
