ABSTRACT

The World Heritage Committee believed that the Silk Road was the route for the fusion, communication, and conversation between the east and the west, and it had brought together the four most important cultural systems, namely Greek, Islamic, Indian, and Chinese culture, which made significant contributions to the shared prosperity of human beings in the past 2000 years. The Silk Road was first opened up and put into use during the Western Han era, thrived in the Sui and Tang dynasties, and declined in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Silk had become a popular luxurious product among the upper class in Rome Empire, resulting in the soaring price of the silk products. The Tang government paid great attention to transportation along the Silk Road. According to the records by the Prime Minister Jia Dan, there were 7 main routes in total to the neighboring ethnic minority areas and extraterritorial regions.
