ABSTRACT

At the end of April, 2011, the National Bureau of Statistics in China released the first and the second results of the Sixth National Population Census in 2010. It also released the official publication of Communique on Major Data of the 6th National Population Census in 2010, which, collectively, provided the most essential data of the 6th census. The chapter compares the results between the 6th census and the previous communiques. Before the release of the full data of the sixth census, it analyzes the sex and age information found in the population pyramid provided in the major data of the sixth census. The underestimation of urbanization in the communiques in the past had led demographic studies and planning to underestimate the impact of urbanization on new births and level of population aging. The chapter draws some conclusions based on the major results released of the sixth census, but thorough analysis relies on more data.
