ABSTRACT
Chapter 15 presents a review of research methods in population studies worldwide and measures the current population dynamics in China from various perspectives. There is also a discussion on the effects of population momentum on future population trends in China. Population momentum will sustain population growth in China for the next decade or two, but positive population growth from the momentum is waning rapidly. Future population trends will be a tug of war between the momentum of positive growth of the senior population and that of negative growth of the working-age.
