ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 is a literature review. Based on population data, major characteristics of population trends since the founding of the People’s Republic of China are presented, which include those related to changes in age structure of the population, birth rates, fertility rates, mortality rates and survival rates, as well as the course of population urbanization. Also, data from various sources are compared, and differences among analyzing measures and related issues are identified. In particular, controversies over points of view in this area are presented and the main issues that this book focuses on are introduced.
