ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents a closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the present chapter of this book. The intent of the book has been to construct a relational theory of International Relations (IR) with the help of the concept and practices of guanxi. It recalls the relationality – and, in particular, the social practices, reciprocal figurations, and personal interconnections – which have been excluded from the standard narrative. The book reviews two of the most prominent conversations on relationality in IR – those in its Anglophone and Sinophone variants. It offers a dialogue between the Anglophone and Sinophone conversations on relationality. Drawing on the concept and practices of guanxi, the analysis amplifies the intrinsic relationality of global life and the realms of IR. The alternative narrativization provided by a relational IR theorizing treats China's rise as a socially negotiated practice.
