ABSTRACT

The word brains, is in the colloquial way. Obviously, all humans have brains, but as we also know, people vary widely in intelligence. This chapter helps to understand own intellectual abilities and more accurately observe the capability of others. The work of Carol Dweck demonstrates that one can increase their intellectual capability, within certain limits. Intelligence is highly prized in business, and for good reason. Of course, it is no guarantee of effectiveness, good judgment, or admirable character. Overconfidence is perhaps the most common cause of smart people doing dumb things. Anxiety avoidance can also cause smart people to do dumb things. Selection and oversight of a chief executive officer (CEO) is the most important role of the board. The CEO must be a person of integrity and possess great capacity for discernment. Human's brains capable of processing information on a literal level, but also to envision, create, and understand metaphor; and to learn from both direct and indirect experience.
