ABSTRACT

Latinx Studies scholars approach the topic of youth from many different disciplinary directions, including family, education, health, and culture. Inevitably, these approaches interface with issues of language, migration, politics, citizenship, gender, and sexuality, among others. There are other stressors within Latin families that exert themselves on Latinx youth. Many Latinx activists and educators have fought this system, even creating spaces that can provide Latinx youth with learning opportunities as well as spaces for community building. Latinx Studies scholars have also turned their attention to how Latinx youth interface with cultural phenomena such as music, literature, comic books, animation, and the like. The domain of literature has proved to be an important space of self-affirmation for Latinx youth: children’s and young adult fiction as well as comic books. Latinx Studies scholars have also considered the negative impact on Latinx youth of the stereotypical representations of Latinxs in video games.
