ABSTRACT

Pulmonary adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and adenosquamous carcinoma are non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), belonging to the epithelial tumors category according to the 2015 WHO classification of tumors of the lung, pleura, thymus, and heart. Patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma, SCC, and adenosquamous carcinoma may manifest with cough, hemoptysis, dyspnea, fatigue, weight loss, chest pain, and pleural effusion. Some patients may be asymptomatic with incidental radiologic finding of lung tumors. Apart from physical exam and medical history review, chest X-ray, computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are helpful in localizing lung cancer. Adenosquamous carcinoma of the lung has a poorer prognosis than adenocarcinoma or SCC of the lung. Treatment options for adenocarcinoma, SCC, and adenosquamous carcinoma of the lung include surgery, radiation therapy, and/or chemotherapy. Radiation therapy can be applied either externally or internally.
