ABSTRACT
The attitude of the child in question is moreover only to be explained by the whole of the existing situation, in which it must be remembered that the child's body forms only one part of the total "psychic field". The composition of an individual as a whole shows a definite structure of psychic strata and systems. It is in conformity with this that a concrete psycho-motor occurrence, especially an expression, is in the main it is true the offspring of one system, but that a certain communication is kept up with other psychic regions. If the expression is understood the ultimate meaning is perceived "through the surface" so to.speak. In a similar way a definite expression is as a rule an effect of several psychic strata, and this is true even in the young child.
