ABSTRACT

The Neighborhood of Make-Believe and the regions surrounding it were built up and developed over the years the program aired. The Neighborhood itself began forming on The Children's Corner and continued in Rogers' Canadian show; in the first few weeks of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, the new area of Someplace Else was added. Besides the continuing and overlapping stories of pre-hiatus episodes and the week-long narratives connecting post-hiatus episodes, there are other events which add to the overall story of the Neighborhood, giving it a history. Many of the remote locations appearing on the show, as well as many of the show's guests, were from the Pittsburgh area. The television house is made up of several areas; moving from left to right, there is the front yard, the porch, the kitchen, and a backyard area, reached by a back door in the kitchen. The imaginary world Rogers created was one of the most detailed and elaborate ones found in children's television.
