ABSTRACT

Several people indicate that coaching originates back in Ancient Greece; and probably, rightly so. Executive coaches need to be versatile, multidimensional, balanced in their expertise and approach and self-aware, to mention just a few of the required characteristics. With demand for excellence and value for money becoming the norm in what corporations expect when hiring an executive coach, the past few years have seen a great number of "visitors" and "passers-by" wrap up their business. The coach supports the coachee by identifying and utilising areas of strength (talent) in order to generate circumstances for progression. Even though it is not the coach's job to provide management, strategy or financial consulting services, one should aim to have a fair understanding of how the corporate world goes around. The coach features four dimensions, which ought to be developed equally: skills, method, presence and disposition.
